As society beckons us toward a fast-paced lifestyle with a tiring tempo, scripture gently calls us back to the unhurried rhythm of rest, which finds its roots in the story of creation. In Genesis 1, God creates human beings, and in the very next scene, he rests. This day of rest concluded God’s act of creation, but it was the commencement of our existence. From the beginning of human history, the Lord has been training us to live to the beat of His heart, resting in Him before all else. We were created to work out of our rest, not rest from our work.
