Our society promotes and chases after a commercialized and glamorized picture of a good life. This ideal life is full of followers and influence, big houses and nice cars, vacations and adventures. Yet no matter how much we chase after this life, it never seems to deliver what it promises. Romans 8 is an invitation to redefine the good life. Because the intrinsic truth about life is this: Life with Jesus is better. In Romans 8:28 we are given this promise as those who are His, “we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” His ways, His priorities, His promises, His purposes, and His call- they are all working for our good and they are better than anything this life has to offer. His invitation to us is to step into this good life. To live filled by His Spirit, that frees us from the condemnation of sin and death and unleashes us to walk into the spacious freedom and life we are offered God’s children. No matter what we face or what comes our way, the death of Jesus has made a way for us to step into the life of Spirit. His death is our doorway into the good life we’ve always longed for.
