In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is going to straight to the heart of His disciples. Throughout the sermon He challenges them to be formed by God’s heart. During the middle of the sermon, Jesus speaks to the about money. His words are simple: “Where your treasure is, you will find your heart.” Later on, Jesus will encounter a rich man who wants to know the way to eternal life. After dialoguing for some time, Jesus’ final challenge to him is to sell everything he has and in giving the money away, to give his affection and attention fully to Jesus. Money and possessions reveal our hearts affection. How we handle money tells the story of what’s most important to us. As we open this series, we want to start by going straight to the heart- what is the deepest desire of our heart?
