From the series Christmas In Hindsight
In Placide Cappeau’s Christmas hymn O Holy Night, he writes these words that capture the essence of that very first Christmas,“The thrill of hope, a weary world rejoices…” For generations, humanity had been waiting anxiously for God to fulfill His promise of a Savior and as generations came and went, the world grew increasingly weary. But on that day when Christ was born, a thrill of hope entered Bethlehem and in the midst of a waiting world was a cause for great joy. Jesus brings hope to a weary world. And in 2020 as the world grows increasingly weary we have learned maybe more than ever before that Jesus brings what our hearts really long for. He is our thrill of hope in a weary world. Our place of rest when we are tired. He is our light when the days are dark. He is our vision when we can’t see through the season, He is our path when the world has lost its way. In a year full of so much bad news, we come to this season to be reminded of the great truth that Christ has come. As we lean into the message and prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas, we hold close to the truth that no matter what this next year will bring, we have all we need.
